Country: Italy

Persons involved in the Project
The Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse (Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) groups two institutes of CNR and 7 university Centres. With almost 90 CNR researchers and technicians and 110 university collaborators, the research covers various earth science fields. The main topics are: geodynamic, geophysics and geological materials characterization. One of the main target of IGG is the exploration of natural resources for a sustainable development. The scientific activity in the section of Geothermics consists mainly of the development and improvement of exploration technology and methodology, the study and modelling of high and low enthalpy geothermal systems, and reservoir and production engineering. The geothermal international activity of the IGG takes the form of collaboration with institutes and organizations abroad in scientific research programmes, participation in exploration projects and in projects promoted by international organizations such as the Commission of the European Communities and the United Nations (IAEA, UNDP, UNESCO), as well as the activity of its International School of Geothermics and the publication of the international journal "Geothermics" by Elsevier Science Ltd (Oxford). IGG collaborates with many state-owned organizations and private companies in national and international projects.
