ENEL is the main geothermal operator in continental Europe, has expertise and skills in the exploration, drilling and production of geothermal sources; the company aims also to achieve an increasing share in the geothermal world market by increasing its competitiveness through the technological results of this research project.
The competencies of ENEL in the field of renewable energy resources are paired with a high experience in the management of RTD projects and projects funded by the Commission. ENEL is the main electric utility in Italy, with an annual production of 215 TWh and installed capacity of 52 GW. ENEL’s commitment to developing renewable energy resources dates back several decades, first with hydroelectric and geothermal resources and, later, with solar, wind and biomass generation. Since 1984 ENEL has participated in many CEC renewable programmes (Demonstration programmes, THERMIE and JOULE), both as main contractor and co-ordinator.
